Austin has no shortage of good backdrops if you know where to look, and for Brittany's session we used basically two completely different versions of the city in one afternoon. The trail gave us just enough movement and texture, then a quick drive later and the Domain area handed us something cleaner and more editorial. Switching locations mid-session sounds chaotic on paper, but honestly it just kept the whole thing feeling alive.
Here's the thing about photographing someone who actually loves what they do — the camera notices. Brittany Boehr is a NASM-certified mobile personal trainer based in Austin, specializing in strength endurance training with an emphasis on core strength, balance, and stability. She's also a certified barre instructor who was named Best Barre Instructor in Austin Fit Magazine's Best of Fitness 2022, which, for the record, is not a small deal. When she moved through her fitness poses she wasn't performing for the lens, she was just being herself — and that distinction shows up in every single frame.
The Domain goes all out for Christmas, and that backdrop asked for something slower. Most of Brittany's session was movement-forward, which suits her — she's a trainer, stillness isn't exactly her default setting. Stopping in front of those lights and just letting the camera sit on her face for a minute told a different part of the story. People hire Brittany, not just her programming, and headshots exist to remind potential clients that there's a real human behind the work they're about to trust with their body and their confidence.
Branding photos exist to do one specific job, which is making someone's work feel as real online as it does in person. Brittany trains people not just physically but in how they think about themselves and their bodies, and that kind of work demands photos with some warmth and some energy behind them. A stock photo of a woman holding a dumbbell was never going to cut it for her. What she needed were images that actually looked like her, and that's exactly what we left with.
